The Wessex Estate – another time capsule, walk up towards the water tower and you go back 60 years. The estate is mostly intact, two blocks of flats, 13 and 18, were demolished 30 odd years ago to make way for a trunk cable. In March 2024 I saw that the SLA had applied to demolish two houses in Wilton Close that were beyond repair, the rest of the estate is on a rolling programme of renovation. As tenants leave the blocks of flats, once they are empty the work begins. In September 2024 a lot of the houses in Whitchurch Road were empty and being renovated. I lived there as a child so its rather nostalgic to wander around the estate to see the house we lived in and the places I played.
