This road really shows off the Eurasian influence in Singapore, especially the Portugese influence. Lots of work has been done to renovate the shop houses and houses and they look wonderful, its always worth a visit as it does represent the old Singapore. We came across a Peranakan Museum recently opened at 283A Joo Chiat Road, run by enthusiastic Perankans, they delighted in showing us round and telling us all about their culture, exhibits were better than the Peranakan Museum in the old Tao Nan School. They encouraged us to visit the Eurasian Heritage Gallery a 5 minute walk from their musuem on Ceylon Road and that was a great place to see as well. Lunch was at the Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice stall in the Katong Shopping Centre, “die die must try” !
